Thoiry took to the field, basking in glorious sunshine, ready to kick start the season with a much needed victory. Praneeth opened the bowling from the top end, making the batsmen play and miss with some lovely outswingers. This was more than backed up by Usman who has found some great rhythm by switching to the Pavilion end. His uninterrupted, metronomic 7 over spell went for just 17 runs and with a bit more luck would’ve bagged a few wickets too.
But despite some top bowling Essonne were 42 without loss until Christian ‘ABBA’ Chancé entered the fray. With a clinical display of swing bowling, Christian was the catalyst for a batting collapse. In his second over, he ripped through the Essonne top order with a triple-wicket maiden reducing the opposition to 42-3. The middle-order cautiously rebuilt until Chancé struck again after drinks, with Praneeth taking a fine boundary catch. Supported by penetrative spells from Tabreez (6-0-19-3) and Suharshan (2.1-1-3-2), Thoiry skittled out Essonne for a total of 93.
The mercurial Christian Chancé finished with figures of 7-2-19-5; a sensational bowling performance.
Despite a modest target to chase, Thoiry were determined not to slip up. The opening pair of Tyson John (51 not out) and Jon Taylor (31 not out) played with great composure, punishing any balls that were off line or short of a length, with Tyson hitting a boundary to bring up his fifty and lead Thoiry to a ten wicket victory. Top performance. The season starts here!
