Match Report

It was an absolute pleasure to welcome our first touring side of the season to Thoiry on Saturday. Ex The Set CC are a UK-based team who come together from all corners of England once a year for a cricket tour. Having previously been to Milan, Oxford, and Menorca, this year Colonel Andy Deans MBE decided to bring his team to France and the picturesque ground of Château de Thoiry Cricket Club.

Ex the Set went out to bat first and were immediately put under pressure by the Thoiry seam attack of Usman (8-2-27-1) and Eddy Hoyle (8-1-26-1). Their pace, bounce, and movement unsettled the opposition top order who were unaccustomed to playing on such a bouncy track.   Tabreez (4-1-16-1) followed up by dismissing the Ex the Set skipper, with Jon T juggling at second slip before finally clutching the ball. From 31-3 Ex the Set then dug in and moved the total up to 70-3 as we approached the half-way stage.

However, tight spells by Chan on debut (8-0-43-2), Praneeth (4-0-21-1), and Jon T (8-1-23-1) meant that Ex The Set finished on 166-7 after 40 overs.   Although there were a few dropped catches, 6 catches were held, which was a vast improvement on previous matches!

Following a fine Thoiry tea, CTCC set out to attack the ExTheSet total. Despite losing Mark early doors, Jon T (62 not out) and Hussan’s (61) 131 run second wicket partnership took the game away from the opposition. A lovely cameo from Hammad (17 not out) finally saw Thoiry to victory in the 22nd over.

An accomplished performance by the Thoisers rounded off with an excellent post-match BBQ with a great deal of merriment from our high-spirited opponents.

Man of the Match Jon Taylor – 62 not out, 1-23, and 1 catch.

Champagne Moment

John Hardy and Tabreez’s team work at first slip and wicket keeper to dismiss their opener – Tabreez took the pace of the ball and juggled it nicely into John’s gloves.
