vs Challengers CC 9th April 2016

The first match of the season saw CTCC squaring off against Challengers Cricket Club (CCC). CTCC skipper for the game, Pragash decided to bat first after winning the toss. On a pitch where there was uneven bounce from one end and gripping from the other, Hammad continued his good form from the previous season, scoring a crucial 70 not out. He was supported well by Manoj (28), Danny (22) and Pragash (24). Though wickets fell on one end, the way Hammad paced his innings; by being watchful in the first half and then accelerating towards the end, was really champion stuff. Thoiry set a competitive target of 201 to Challengers CC under grey skies and decreasing temperatures.

The bowling was opened by Pragash and debutant Trevin who swung the ball quite hard in conditions least favorable for swing bowling. Trevin got off the mark for Thoiry with 2 CCC wickets (2/4). Hammad once again came into the limelight, claiming a brilliant catch off Tabreez at backward point. Christian, from the other end though, left the batsmen clueless with his accurate swing bowling. He was unplayable and it was quite unlucky that he ended up with no wickets. The champagne moment of the match, came when Tabreez sprinted to deep square leg to collect the ball off a pull. He flaunted his arm by affecting a direct hit from that distance with an accurate throw, sending back an over-defensive batsman. The second debutant of the season, Samir impressed everyone with his spin bowling and was rewarded with a well deserved 4/24. His 4 victims included a good c&b and a quick stumping by Manoj who had an excellent outing with the gloves behind the stumps. Overall, good performances from all the departments. A very promising start to the season. The club also thanks Leslie for the teas and Danny for mowing the ground. 2 matches next weekend, bring it on!
